作者介绍
这首诗歌原名《白白恩典》，作者是有教会“圣诗之王”之称的查理·卫斯理（Charles Wesley）所作，这是作者赞美类诗歌的一首代表作。《And Can It Be》是写于1738年，是为了纪念查理?卫斯理的悔改。曲调则是托马斯?坎贝尔（Thomas Campbell）于1825年创作，原诗歌有5段歌词，此版本节选自1、3、4、5段。
其中「My chains fell off, my heart was free，I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.」这句歌词是根据《新约》中彼得的经历写成的。
他一生真实的生活，就是一直把自己的生命完全交托给这荣耀的福音。而这福音也是他亲自所经历的。和他兄弟约翰一样，查理最注意的就是借着信心得着确实的把握，幷且使他们自己的良心完全无愧，在基督里无可责备。
这样，能力就能充满幷彰显在他们身上，为此他又写了一首诗歌：《何能如此，如我也能》。而这首诗歌，也成了他诗歌中不朽的杰作。因着他一生对救恩的启示和对救主的认识，所以他心中一直充满着海浪滚滚般的大爱。由于对主的热爱和对拯救灵魂的迫切，他很多诗歌都充满了这样的感情。查理一生中有极多的工作，但对教会最大的帮助，仍是诗歌。

作者在整首诗歌中所发惊人的感叹皆出于他对救恩的启示和救主的认识，何等震撼人心。这位造天地的神竟拣选你我，藉祂的宝血与罪人立了永恒的新约。“除爱之外一切皆舍”，“无限怜悯阔长深厚”，是祂永不改变的恩典。当罪人得以脱去罪污，披上基督为我们成就的公义，欢喜快乐站在圣洁父神宝座前的时候，无人不惊叹神丰富的智慧以及这浩瀚响彻宇宙的爱！
